Who should be an Upper Keys Rotary Member

Our founding documents direct us to “…thoroughly investigate the character, business, social, and community standing… of all persons proposed for membership.”

Integrity

Our club documents, new and old, precisely name “Integrity” as a defining characteristic for members of the Upper Keys Rotary Club.

Therefore: Applicants accepted for membership should not have a factor that speaks against that person’s integrity. Examples might be, but are not limited to:

  • Convictions or adjudications of guilt for misdemeanors or equivalent professional complaints involving physical violence or misuse of funds.
  • Convictions or adjudications of guilt for any level of felony or the equivalent professional complaint.

Leadership and Willingness to Serve

Leadership and willingness to serve are factors named in our Club Constitution:

Therefore: Applicants accepted for membership should have shown accomplishment and express willingness to participate in Community Service and Club Service.

Reputation and community standing

The reputation of our club and foundation is based on the reputations of our members. Our club documents, new and old, define reputation and community standing as important characteristics for our members.

Therefore: Applicants accepted for membership should have a reputation for responsibility and fair dealing within the community. Examples of negative factors might be, but are not limited to:

  • Slow or no payment of bills for work or supplies
  • Poor treatment of employees
  • Poor sportsmanship
  • Poor behavior on the job or in public

The 4-way Test

All the Club’s documents cite the Rotary 4-WayTest as being important for Rotarian life.

Therefore: Applicatnts accepted for membership should meet the test “Will their membership be beneficial to all concerned?”

  • Answer the question: “Would you want this person to be the president of our club?”

Community Engagement

The factors above are based on our founding documents. They have a solid foundation.

Our Club believes a level of engagement with the community is important and suggests:

  • A prospective Rotarian should have a demonstrated commitment to the community.

After submitting your application, our Membership Committee will guide you through the next steps. New members are welcomed with open arms and encouraged to participate in projects, events, and committees that match their passions.

We look forward to meeting you and making a difference—together.
